The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-game ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock call-up.
Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI side after managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of 47 in his previous ten ODI innings.
The 31-year-old has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.
Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.
The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia search for a answer to their top-order woes.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
